Here's a tip from Peggy Baker, from Cloudcroft, New Mexico.
In the spring, you can put outside thread, ribbon, bias tape, thin fabric strips. Many birds twine them in their nests. I used to be a docent at a zoo, and they did this there. I would not put out anything with harsh dyes. Also, I believe lengths of 12 inches or less would be best.

A good idea?
It seemed for me a great idea to help mother nature, so, for several weeks, I left outside in the garden my small stripes and thread cuts, for all that little birds that lives around my house. I thougth it was a good idea, until we began to hear a real chorus of "chirps" when we were watching tv at our living room. Then, we realized that they'd done their nests ¡inside my home's chimney!
